Houston EVA Hosts "Wings and Wheels" Event
Dave Hanson, President of the Houston Electric Vehicle Association, helped organize a unique display in the Houston area recently at the chapter’s “Wings and Wheels” event!
“There was lots of engagement with the public at our Wings & Wheels event at the Houston 1940 Air Terminal Museum on Sat. Sep. 16, 2023. Members of the public got a two-for-one coming out to learn about the history of flight in Houston and seeing (and conversing with chatty owners) some of the latest models of cars to hit the market.”
The Houston EVA brought quite a nice variety of EVs to the event, including the Rivian R1S, Hyundai Ioniq 5 (with trailer showing towing ability), Ioniq 6, Chevy Bolt, Ford C-Max Energi PHEV, and a number of Teslas (Models S, 3, X, Y, as well as a Roadster). The Ioniq 5 also showed vehicle-to-load capability by powering an electric cooler and a monitor playing previous meeting clips (Emma, Houston EVA member, demonstrates in photos below.)
“At start up time we had about 14 vehicles, and during the course of the event two more arrived. Many of our members spoke with families with small children who had come out to the Museum not knowing we were showing EVs. Discussions about the high safety ratings of many EVs ensued, as well as the lack of tailpipe exhaust and air-borne particulates being emitted around young, still-developing lungs. I personally had a retired man ask me what I thought would be the best car for his mid-career son to use as a daily driver. I filled him in on what is on the market and gave him an EVA flier showing many of the current models available. He was very appreciative.”
“Many of our chapter members were proud to volunteer their time at this event, as are EVA members I know across North America. My wife and I have had the wonderful pleasure of interacting with EVA members and we’re proud to be a part of such an organization.”
