ALA Report: "Boosting Health for Children: Benefits of Zero-Emission Transportation and Electricity"
The American Lung Association recently released a new report focusing on children's health and its correlation with EVs. The report highlights the significant positive impact that widespread adoption of EVs could have on improving air quality and reducing harmful emissions, ultimately benefiting the respiratory health of children. By advocating for the transition to electric transportation, the American Lung Association underscores the potential for a cleaner environment and healthier future for our younger generation. This report serves as an important reminder of the interconnectedness between vehicle emissions and children's well-being, emphasizing the need for sustainable solutions to protect public health.
Ultimately, the report notes that “transportation is a major source of harmful air pollution, health disparities and climate change in the United States” and that “as zero-emission passenger vehicles become more common and policies and investments shift to pollution-free cars and electricity generation, children, families and communities across the country will see dramatic improvements in air quality and reductions in health impacts and disparities."
Some of the key findings include the following, based on transitioning to zero-emission transportation and non-combustion clean electricity generation, the national cumulative health benefits for children could reach the following levels by 2050:
500+ fewer infant deaths
2.8 million fewer pediatric asthma attacks
2.7 million fewer upper respiratory symptoms
1.9 million fewer lower respiratory symptoms
147,000 fewer acute bronchitis cases
