Wisconsin EVA Rally August 9-10
By Jeremiah Brockman, Wisconsin EVA
It is often said that electric vehicles (EVs) are not good for road trips. They don’t have enough range, the thought goes. They take too long to recharge, and charging is way too expensive. But what if I told you that none of these things are true? Not only are EVs great road trippers, but charging stations are not hard to find. Fast chargers used for road trips are cheaper than fueling up an internal combustion engine (ICE) car too. It is true that road tripping in an EV does take more planning than in an ICE car. But many EVs have navigation systems built into the car that direct the driver exactly where to find charging along the route. And for about how long they need to charge there. Apps like Plugshare help find charging spots all over the USA, including people who will even let you charge at their residence.
I am the president of the Wisconsin Electric Vehicle Association (EVA). The EVA is a national, volunteer run, nonprofit organization that is all about educating people about the benefits of driving EVs. Here in Wisconsin, we do just that on a local scale. To further our educational effectiveness, I am organizing a fundraiser for the Wisconsin chapter of the EVA. This event will take place on Friday August 9th and Saturday August 10th. It doesn’t matter what brand your EV is, or what state you call home. Everyone is welcome!
The event will start in Madison, WI at 8:30 on the morning of the 9th. We will drive counterclockwise around the state, stopping at various “checkpoints” in different towns. At each checkpoint, the EV driver and all passengers (or fellow drivers) will take a picture near something that displays the logo or presence of the business that is sponsoring that location. The group will then post their picture to as many social media accounts as they have, tagging the business in the post. Once finished, simply drive to the next checkpoint. On the evening of the 9th, each car will participate in a free car show for the people of the Wausau area. We do have a limited number of rooms blocked in Wausau, so be sure to sign up soon! On the morning of the 10th we will all hit the road by 8:30, continuing around the state. The event will conclude in Madison as well where we will have a wrap up ceremony.
Help the Wisconsin EVA raise some funds, in a fun way, and demonstrate how good EVs are at road trips. For each car, the fee is $50 per driver and if you want to bring people along to experience an EV road trip I highly encourage that too! That would be the perfect way to help spread the word about how awesome these cars really are. We are currently looking for EV drivers who want to participate. We are also looking for any corporate sponsors who may be interested in sponsoring the entire event. More details can be found on the event website: www.wisconsinevroadtrip.org. There you can view the event details, the planned route, and get in contact with me as well. Hope to see you there!
