Amazing NDEW events around the country!

NDEW event in Thornburg, Virginia

Last month, we highlighted National Drive Electric Week events in the Southwest, the far Northwest, and the lower Northwest. This month, we look in three additional directions.

To the East…

The Electric Vehicle Fall Festival at Dominion Raceway in Thornburg, Virginia, was “a bigger and better success than ever,” said Charles Gerena, lead organizer of Drive Electric RVA in Richmond, noting that electric vehicle (EV) owners had the  opportunity to drive around the road course, launch down the drag strip, and enter a car show judged by members of the public.

“EV-Resource organized the event, but our chapter provided support with our EV Experience educational exhibit as well as vehicles to display,” Gerena continued. “Our chapter also hosted a smaller event on Spetember 25 with 12 cars on display.”

And in the Upper Midwest…

Rides in the Kalamazoo Public Schools’ fully electric bus were a welcome highlight at Drive Electric Kalamazoo, the Kalamazoo Electric Vehicle Association’s NDEW event in Michigan. This encouraged many families with school-aged children to attend. 

The presence of the Sunseeker solar car racing team from Western Michigan University was another popular attraction, the squad bringing its latest racing car for display. Event participants also enjoyed the live music, a random drawing for passes to the National Studebaker Museum in South Bend, Indiana, and a display of EVs that included a Rivian R1T truck.

The city’s mayor and Michigan state representatives attended the event, and Consumers Energy was there to provide information about EV charging incentives. Check out the local TV news report.

NDEW event in Kalamazoo, Michigan

And to the south…

The better-than-ever  attendance at the Tampa Bay EVA NDEW event, coming on the heels of one of the most powerful hurricanes to ever hit the west coast of Florida, was indicative of the very high interest in EVs in the area. 

According to a report, the event featured “more models and more members of the public seeking a better understanding of what EVs are really about and the benefits of owning one.” The models attracting perhaps the most attention were a Rivian, a Harley Davidson Livewire and a Ford Mustang Mach-E Purple Rain.
