Monthly Myth: There aren’t enough EVs to choose from
Take a look at the truth
By Tim Benford: President of Drive Electric Dayton and Past Vice-President of Electric Auto Association
As we’ve explained in prior Electric Auto Association articles, it’s a myth that electric vehicles (EVs) don’t have enough range, that charging an EV isn’t convenient, that EVs just swap the tailpipe for a smokestack, that EVs are too costly to buy, maintain, and repair, and that your battery must be replaced in 5 to 10 years.
If we’ve shattered these myths and you are now considering purchasing an EV, you may be concerned about a lack of models to choose from in the U.S. So let’s take a look.
Below is a broad (but not exhaustive) list of EVs, grouped by likely year of release.
EVs available today
Any time now (2021)
Tesla Cybertruck Tri-motor AWD
Near future (2022 - 2024)
On the horizon
Conclusion
We can safely say that at least 39 EV models are available now and/or in the future, indicating that EVs are here to stay. And articles are now appearing more frequently online like Fossil Fuel Vehicles Are Hitting Their Expiration Date.
So, whether your reason for buying electric is the feel of the instant torque, the money saved on vehicle maintenance, or the satisfaction of doing your part to reverse climate change, you’ll have more choice over the next few years as the number of EVs on offer increases. These are exciting times for personal transportation!
