EVA President attends Historic Michigan Central Station Reopening
Ford has officially opened the newly renovated Michigan Central Station in Detroit. EVA President Elaine Borseth, who calls Detroit her hometown, joined others from Ford’s Blue Table Forum to see the facility that will become a hotspot for the city’s regrowth and transformation. Ford undertook the ambitious 6 year renovation project, with the aim of converting the historical site into a cutting-edge, sustainable mobility innovation district. The restoration efforts were meticulously geared towards conserving the station's architectural legacy, blending in modern technology and environmentally conscious elements. Among the key enhancements were the refurbishment of internal spaces for office functionalities, the establishment of zones for communal gatherings, alongside the incorporation of sustainable construction methodologies to curtail energy usage. Ford's overarching objective was to rejuvenate the station, positioning it as a key nexus for pioneering advancements, fostering collaboration, and driving the evolution of forthcoming mobility solutions.
Once a symbol of the city's decline, Michigan Central now stands as a beacon of its revitalization. Ford's transformation of the station into a hub for innovation and technology is poised to bring new life to the surrounding neighborhood and attract top talent to the area. The space will be used by “Ford employees together with external partners, entrepreneurs, students, and even competitors, to co-create new products, services, and technologies that add value to a new generation of Ford customers and help build a better world.” The project represents a significant investment in Detroit's future and underscores that the Motor City is making a roaring comeback in the era of tech and e mobility.
“The transformation of this building was truly amazing,” said Elaine. “I’m excited to see e-mobility move forward in Detroit. Seeing Detroit icons Diana Ross and Eminem was amazing and test driving the Ford F100 Eluminator was definitely a highlight. It’s great to see EV innovation up close!”
