EVA Joins Consumer Reports' Project to Improve EV Charging Reliability

Electric vehicles are rapidly gaining traction, promising a cleaner and more sustainable future. However, one major hurdle remains: the reliability of public charging infrastructure. That's why the Electric Vehicle Association (EVA) is thrilled to announce our participation in Consumer Reports' (CR) groundbreaking project aimed at improving EV charging reliability.

For EV owners and those considering making the switch to electric cars and trucks, the anxiety surrounding finding a functional and dependable charging station is real. This collaborative effort between EVA and CR seeks to address these concerns head-on, paving the way for a smoother and more confident EV experience for everyone.

Why is EV Charging Reliability So Important?

The most common issue holding Americans back from getting an electric vehicle is charging logistics, according to a Consumer Reports nationally representative survey of 9,030 U.S. adults conducted in June and July, 2023. Reliable public charging infrastructure is critical for those on longer road trips, and for Black, Latino, low- and moderate income drivers, renters, apartment dwellers, and others who may not have access to home charging.

Survey respondents will be asked about charging speed, uptime, payment problems, safety issues, and access to amenities at EV charging stations throughout the country. People will be asked to share their observations through quick surveys after they charge. Results from the survey will be shared to highlight trends in EV infrastructure and pain points where improvements and consumer engagement are needed. This CR program is ongoing!
