Calling all EV soldiers
The Infrastructure roll out needs our help
By Jim Stack, President of Electric Auto Association of Phoenix
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, passed by Congress last year and going into effect now, is set to add 500,000 electric vehicle (EV) chargers across the country. It requires that each state come up with an EV Infrastructure Deployment Plan before these funds can be accessed.
Get involved at the state level
This deployment plan must address where and how the chargers will be installed, and EVA chapters should consider forming teams of advocates able to give advice on potential locations in their region. While doing so, it will be important to keep in mind:
Sufficient power sources for DC fast charging stations will be necessary at each site.
Along highways, chargers should be positioned 50 to 70 miles apart in order to accommodate shorter range EVs.
At least one 1 J-1772 EV charger at each charge site for plug-in hybrids is advisable.
Contact your local state representative to get started. The time is now.
