National Drive Electric Week starts September 26 and many Electric Auto Association chapters are planning their events. More than 130 locations in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and New Zealand are in the works.
The Electric Auto Association joined with Plug In America and the Sierra Club for a discussion on "Organizing a 2020 Electric Vehicle Event: In-Person or Online” and you can view the recording and slides. They described how make a virtual event dynamic and the importance of following local health authority guidelines if an in-person event is deemed safe in late September.
Electric Auto Association Chapter Leader Jukka Kukkonen of the Minnesota Electric Vehicle Owners presented how chapters and National Drive Electric Week city captains can take action.
Take action today
1. Register your event: Tell us about an event you are organizing that’s not currently on our list. Invite volunteers to sign up via social media and email. Considering planning an event? Here are all the resources you’ll need.
2. Plan a virtual event: Many city captains held virtual events during April 2020 Drive Electric Earth Day using webinars, Zoom, and virtual ride and drives, with participatory activities and games. Others invited elected officials or local celebrities. All city captains are encouraged to host virtual events prior to National Drive Electric Week to promote their event, regardless of whether you plan a virtual or in-person event. Check out the Event Planning Resources page for tools to organize an online EV event.
3. Plan a safe September in-person event using appropriate social distancing: city captains can plan for an in-person event this year, as long as they are in full compliance with city, county and state health authority guidelines at the time of the event. Any in-person event can be converted to a virtual event by logging into your event page and changing the in-person designation to virtual. If planning an in-person event, have a back-up plan to convert it to virtual.
4. Participate in and promote national virtual events: the Electric Auto Association, Plug In America and Sierra Club will be conducting national virtual events during National Drive Electric Week and encourage chapters to share this information via social media.
